Iain Sykes recently joined One Group as MD of a new subsidiary, Goodtogoinsurance Ltd which specialises in providing travel insurance to medically-impaired travellers. Goodtogoinsurance.com is designed to offer appropriate travel insurance cover for all types of medical conditions, up to a high level of severity, and has no age limits on single trip cover.
With over 40 years insurance experience, Iain has been a travel insurance specialist since 1972 at managerial and board level with various companies. During this time, he has been responsible for many innovations, devising and developing, for example, the first travel delay cover during a time when frequent industrial action by air traffic controllers and baggage handlers caused widespread disruption.
Since the late 1990′s, Iain has pioneered and championed the specialist area of travel insurance for medically impaired travellers, devising the first major dedicated brands for this sector which are the current market leaders. Previously, such travellers had generally been given a wide berth by insurers. He was also at the forefront in offering cover for mental health conditions, which the vast majority of mainstream insurers will still not cover to this day.
Iain understands the insurance needs of those travelling with a pre-existing illness, stating ‘it is important that travellers with medical conditions can enjoy a relaxing holiday knowing they have full cover’. He predicts that the impaired health travel insurance market will grow substantially over the coming years, as more and more people make plans to travel and insurers respond to the demand for specialist products.
Iain also represents ATII (Association of Travel Insurance Intermediaries) on the forum. He sits on the committee of ATII, an association which promotes best practices in the selling of travel insurance in the UK.
