Fiona Macrae is a professional insurance broker with over 20 years experience, and is now Operations Director of specialist travel insurance provider Insurancewith. She came up with the concept of Insurancewith whilst recuperating from treatment for breast cancer in 2005.
Following initial treatment for breast cancer Fiona decided to take a holiday with her family to recuperate. However, when she tried to obtain travel insurance she encountered many problems. Insurance companies asked distressing, personal and intrusive questions in an insensitive manner, and all the policies they offered Fiona were loaded with at least £150.
Following more research into insurance for people with pre-existing medical conditions, Fiona was adamant that she wanted to do something to change the status quo.
Fiona has created a double award winning travel insurance product for people with breast cancer and has been mentioned in a Parliamentary Early Day Motion in support of her work on the breast cancer travel product.

Insurancewith is an enhancement of the breast cancer travel product, offering cover for all cancers and pre-existing medical conditions. Insurancewith works with various medical charities enabling us to fully understand the conditions they are covering, which in turn enables them to offer a far more competitive premium. Insurancewith also enables the customer to medically screen themselves on line to negate the need for them to discuss personal medical information with a stranger, they do however have a Customer Care Centre should the customer wish to talk to someone.
P J Hayman & Company (PJH) is a specialist Travel Insurance and Schemes provider, and its flagship product Free Spirit which was the first scheme of its type specifically dedicated to those being declined cover elsewhere due to their health. It is now one of the UK’s largest specialist travel insurance schemes for people with existing medical conditions.
Now I Can Travel is a new entrant to the travel insurance market, the product is designed not to “cherry pick” who will and will not be insure, furthermore the product looks at pre-existing medical conditions in the context of a holiday, not a whole life risk, which enables them to cover the majority of medical conditions even those that are life limiting. There is no maximum age on any of the policies, even the activity policies.
